In 2006, Cathryn Shaw worked for a construction firm downtown St. Louis. During orientation, she was told not to make a right from the building while leaving, as just a block away was the Powell Building known to be a shelter for drug addicts.
Across the street from Powell was an area with numerous homeless camps on abandoned lots and communities in empty warehouses. One evening while leaving work, Cathryn met a young couple sitting on a dock with only their sleeping bags. Over the course of many months, she formed a friendship with the couple and provided them with basic needs and helped them secure and move into permanent housing. Inspired by that success, Cathryn became passionate about helping the chronically homeless and poverty-stricken single mothers of St. Louis City.
After serving hundreds of people each year for eleven years, and having developed a large volunteer base, Cathryn formed All Among Us, Inc. to devote her full time and attention to those living in generational poverty.
